Food Pantry

The Food Pantry is open every Monday at 3:00 at MCCR: 10th Ave. & Clarkson St. It is open to everyone, and all that is needed to get food is a document with a current address, such as a utility bill or photo identification. Those served are men, women and children of all ages.

The Food Pantry at MCC of the Rockies started with a small closet in the Parish House in 1995. A few church members served food to 2 to 10 individuals weekly. Over the years, the Food Pantry has grown drastically, moving to the larger room at the back of the church, and adding the shed in the back for storage. The numbers served have grown as well. The Food Pantry currently serves approximately 250 people per week.

Approximately 2000 pounds of food is given out each week. Some of this food is purchased from the Food Bank of the Rockies, some is purchased from grocery stores, and some is donated. Nonperishable canned or boxed items are always needed; including small serving items for individuals, larger serving items for families, snack foods for kids and items that can be easily opened and don't require cooking, for those who don't have the means to cook food.

Late summer and fall, the Food Pantry collects extra "holiday meal" foods, in preparation for distributing large numbers of baskets for the holidays.

In addition to food, the Food Pantry collects and distributes pet food for those who have pets; toys, diapers and wipes for families with children; and hats, mittens and toiletries for those who need them.

The long-term goals for the future of the Food Pantry include having a working kitchen in order to serve hot meals, and adding a clothing bank.

The Food Pantry is staffed by 20-25 volunteers each week. Some volunteers are members and friends of MCCR. Other volunteers are members of the greater community. Many are recipients of our services or other services, and give their time as a way of giving back for what they have received. Volunteers help with unloading and stocking food, setting up for distribution, signing in recipients and serving food. More help is always needed! To volunteer, you can contact the Food Pantry Coordinator.
